Sylvia Hatchell's book 'Fight! Fight!' tops Amazon bestseller list for cancer books

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Hall of Fame women's basketball coach Sylvia Hatchell's new book Fight! Fight: Discovering Your Inner Strength When Blindsided by Life became the #1 Amazon New Release in Cancer Books on Thursday, two days after the book was released.

Hatchell's book was in and out of the #1 slot on Amazon throughout the day but mostly remained at the top of the list. Since the book was available for pre-order in May, its sales ranking has climbed as high as 15,273 out of 8,000,000 books. On Thursday, it climbed back up into the top 40,000.

"I wrote this book because I wanted to help other people as they go through difficult times," Hatchell says. "People are going through some extremely trying things in life, and I'm always inspired by the courage and boldness that they display. All I want to be is a guide for others as they face some unfathomable challenges in life."

Before Hatchell wrote Fight! Fight!, she was in the middle of writing a memoir based on her 40 years of coaching, where she has accumulated over 700 NCAA Division I victories at the University of North Carolina during her Hall of Fame career. In the middle of working on her memoir, however, she was diagnosed at age 61 with acute myeloid leukemia, one of the most serious forms of cancer for a woman of her age.

After a year-plus fight with cancer, she decided to put her memoir to the side and write Fight! Fight! to help motivate and inspire readers to fight and move through whatever pain they are facing in life.

The book chronicles an 18-month period, where she went from being on top of the world -- landing the best recruiting class in UNC women's basketball history and being inducted into the Naismith Hall of Fame -- to being diagnosed with a life-threatening disease. Throughout the book, Hatchell discusses the factors that helped her remain positive and continue to fight, no matter what unfolded in her treatments. Her story challenges readers to examine how they are using their hearts and minds in the eye of the storm, inspiring all to keep fighting and press on instead of sinking into despair or negativity.

"We are pleased that Sylvia's book is getting into people's hands," says Robert Walker, CEO of The Core Media Group, the publisher of Hatchell's book. "Sylvia's desire, and our desire as a publishing company, is for Fight! Fight to be a source of comfort and inspiration to people who are facing some extremely difficult things in life. It's been a pleasure to work with Sylvia throughout this process and see how passionate she is about meeting others in their pain and standing with them in it."

University of North Carolina men's basketball coach Roy Williams and author Anne Graham Lotz penned the forewords to the book. The book is available on Amazon, and autographed and personalized copies are available on The Core Media Group's website.

Hatchell is available for interviews upon request.
