Widow of Former MLB Player, Frank Pastore, Pens Book About the Love Story That You Won't Forget

Steve Zeller, author of "Raising Boys The Zeller Way," speaks at Grace College in Winona Lake, Indiana.

“When Gina told me she was writing a book, I had a one-word response—‘Perfect!’, says Steven Wright, pitcher for the Boston Red Sox. “Her desire to share her experiences with the platform that Frank created for her is something I tip my hat to.”

By every indication, Gina Pastore was enjoying the fruits of a long marriage after raising two children who were married with their own families. She and her husband, Frank, were childhood sweethearts whose lives unfolded like a Hollywood movie: he found fame as a star pitcher for the Cincinnati Reds; she tended to the home fires with a son and daughter.

It was during Frank’s big league career that they both realized something was missing in their lives. After teammate Johnny Bench sternly reminded Frank not to get too cocky “because you’re always one pitch from humility,” they turned their priorities from materialism to the things in life that really matter: God, family, and integrity.

“Everyone who heard Frank was blessed to hear him, and by ‘everyone,’ I mean everyone of any faith or no faith,” says Dennis Prager, host of the Dennis Prager Show. “This is why I am so touched by Gina’s powerful book...when you read Picking Up My Shattered Pieces you will understand why Frank and Gina were such a remarkable couple.”

When Frank retired, he went into ministry, but even such a noble pursuit had its difficulties. Then in 2004, Frank became the host of the Frank Pastore Show on KKLA, a Christian radio station in Los Angeles. His weekday program quickly became popular, leading to numerous speaking requests.

And then one afternoon—while commuting home on his Honda VTX 1800 motorcycle following his show—their lives changed forever in an instant.

What follows is Gina’s account of the “rest of the story”—and a reminder that in times of trouble and tribulation, God calls us to persevere and trust in His plan for our future.
